St Paul's Cathedral, an Anglican cathedral, is the seat of the Bishop of London and is one of London’s most visited spots. The present building dates from the 17th century and is referred to as London's fifth St Paul's Cathedral, although the count is higher if every major medieval reconstruction counts as a new cathedral. The cathedral sits on the edge of the city’s oldest region, the City, which originated as a Roman trading post along the River Thames.
